A Silence in the Deep | Book Cover
“They have a year to mend a 100-year Silence between the land and the sea—and to find each other.”
Commissioned by beloved author K.B. Hoyle for her newest book which is a retelling of ‘The Little Mermaid’ with a twist. The book is full of symbols that could be used but most importantly for tone we wanted a mix of the two worlds- blue green cool tones for the ocean and warm gold tones for the land. Using inspiration from a 1930’s embossed cover design with a sword playing center stage, I used a jadeite sword as an anchor to base the remaining design around. Lush garden roses and birch leaves are important memories to the main male protagonist in reference to his love on land. Painted with acrylic gouache and finished in Photoshop before placement within InDesign for final type treatment and cover wrap.
